In this paper, we proposed a seismic reflection enhancing approach using the empirical mode decomposition (EMD) in the flattened domain. We use the plane-wave flattening algorithm to flatten the seismic data by predicting different traces from one reference trace. The proposed approach is not intended to attenuate random noise, instead, it is used to enhance seismic reflections in order to make the events more continuous and thus easier for interpretation. The EMD based smoothing is non-parametric and adaptive to different dataset, thus can be conveniently used in practice. Both pre-stack and post-stack examples show that the proposed approaches can successfully enhance the useful signals and make the seismic reflections more continuous.
